1A Acclaim was founded in 1975 by Terry Barnes, shortly after leaving the Royal Air Force. What began as a small family business has grown into one of the most respected professional cleaning and floor care companies in West Sussex. In those early years, carpet cleaning was a relatively new and unfamiliar service, but Terry’s commitment to hard work, integrity, and doing things properly set the tone for everything that followed. Through dedication, long days, and continuous learning, Terry built the reputation that 1A Acclaim is known for today — reliable service, exceptional results, and honest craftsmanship. As the company developed, so too did the technology. Terry quickly recognised the importance of using the best tools for the job, investing in powerful truck-mounted cleaning systems to deliver unbeatable cleaning performance and faster drying times. That same focus on quality and innovation remains at the heart of everything we do, ensuring our clients receive the very best every time.

Over the past five decades, 1A Acclaim has continued to uphold Terry’s founding values while evolving with modern techniques, training, and eco-friendly solutions. The business remains proudly family-run, with Justin and Sophy leading operations today. Justin carries out all cleaning and restoration services as well as on site surveys. Sophy oversees every detail behind the scenes — from first enquiry through to customer aftercare — ensuring every client enjoys a smooth and personal experience. Our portfolio spans a wide range of settings, from luxury homes, yachts, cathedrals, and heritage buildings to commercial contracts for offices, care homes, and retail spaces such as the Post Office and House of Fraser.
